To Display His Glory

“And once again I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after you. I have planned this in order to display my glory through Pharaoh and his whole army. After this the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord!” Exodus 14:4

The Lord God can deliver the Israelites from Egypt in an easier way but He did not do it. He did not lead them along the main road that runs through the Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route. Instead, He led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. (Exodus 13:17-18)

The Lord can even make the Pharaoh’s heart to be kind to let His people go, but He did not. He has a reason and it is to display His glory to Pharaoh and to Egypt. The stories in the Old Testament about the Israelites have spiritual meanings. We can learn on how the Lord handled them physically and relate it to our lives on how the Lord handles us spiritually and molds us to become more like Him.

The road to life is a narrow and difficult road. It is the road that the Lord wants us to take. Christians may face a lot of hardships. It is part of our journey. The Lord’s purpose for it is not to discourage us but to display His glory to the world so that unbelievers will know that He is God. We may face Pharaoh who represents the world. Pharaoh might be your boss at work or people who persecute you and pull you down. Pharaoh may represent problems that you are encountering right now. The Lord hardens Pharaoh’s heart and the Lord planned it to display His glory. We must have Jesus living inside of us so that Pharaoh and the world will know that we have our God who transforms our character and our whole being into His image and likeness. The world will know that we have the fruits of the Holy Spirit manifesting in our character despite of what is happening to us. The world will know that our God is the true and living God because He rescues us, helps us and delivers us. The Lord’s glory will be displayed as we continue to obey the Lord and submit to Him in all things.

May the Lord’s glory be displayed in our lives every day and every circumstances we are facing.
